New Jack Benny epsiode log website

Postby guppy270 » Mon Oct 13, 2008 8:47 pm

This is my first post on the IJBFC site, although I've been redaing it quite a while~!

Back in 1989/1990, I did research for a Jack Benny episode log. My research included obtaining the NBC Program Analysis Sheets from the Library of Congress, and Jack's personal papers from the University of Wyoming. I intendd to publish a book on the Benny show in the 1940's. That plan fell by the wayside, but now 18 years later I decided to put my work up on the web, with a twist.

Although it's not as comprehensive as 39 Forever, I've begun my Jack Benny episode guide on the web. (http://sites.google.com/site/jackbennyinthe1940s/Home).

I’ve started uploading the episode logs first with the details of my research back in 1990, from my original notes. It’s a work in progress, because I have a lot more information to upload from my original notes of listening to the episodes: I’ll be putting that info up in the weeks to come. So far, seasons 1945-1946, 1946-1947, and 1947-1948 have been uploaded.

I’d like the site to be a resource to the Jack Benny fan community online. There are now approx. over 350 episodes available online, but…which ones do you download first? Which are the funniest? The least funniest? The weirdest?

To that end, the twist is: instead of being just a listing of episode titles and guest stars, I’d like to take a page from the Grateful Dead community. There are books called “Grateful Dead Taper Compendiums”, wherein fans review each show, with their take on it plus any other interesting tidbits. I’d like to have my site be the same sort of resource.

To that end, anyone who would like to send in a review of a particular episode/episodes, just send it in to my email address listed on the web site, and I’ll upload it (with full credit of course). Your favorites, least favorites, whichever. I think it could end up being a fun exercise and a nice resource for the community.

I hope you all won’t think this is a thread crap, or a overtly commercial post; if I’ve offended anybody in that regard I really do apologize.

Thanks so much
Bill

Hi....I just wanted to re-itterate that, for my website, anybody that wants to write a review of a Jack Benny episode or episodes from 1940-1949, I would love to post them.

There are no length restrictions on the reviews. Just e-mail me with your review, the date of the epsiode, and the name you'd like it credited to, and I will post it underneath the capsule description of the epsiode. You can put what you love about the episode, what you don't like, interesting tidbits...whatever you'd like.

I've done more work on the site this past week, and I'm working on getting the rest of the seasons, plus my reviews, up on the site. I'd also enjoy hearing any comments or criticisms regarding the site so far.

Thanks again~!

Regarding my research/site on the Jack Benny radio show in the 1940's, I'm getting more and more information up on the website now
(http://sites.google.com/site/jackbennyinthe1940s/Home), so I hope that anybody that's visited already will maybe give it another look :)

I have a lot of research that I did in the late 1980s/early 1990s that is taking a while to get up there, but we're working on it as fast as possible.

I still would love reviews of individual Jack Benny epsiodes from some of the extremely knowledgable people here if, if anyone's interested. If you'd like to contact me at guppy270@gmail.com, or PM me here, we can go over what we're looking for in terms of reviews.

I'm really looking forward to the chat on November 2nd~!

Hi Bill

I'd just say give it a chance, these things take time. It's 20 years since you started, after all, and getting traction from the "community" could take some time.

One thing that would help is if you could point to an entry on the site where there is an existing review. Right now it looks like there aren't any, just basic program data, so it's kind of daunting. If I could see an example of an episode review, it might get my creative juices flowing a little, and provide a little encouragement.

Hi everybody. I just wanted to say that work is continuing on my "Jack Benny in the 1940's" episode list website. We had a delay from November-January but I'm starting to add more content again. Thanks for all the input and advice from everyone.

I am still looking for individual episode reviews, or even your top 5 or 10 show lists to post, etc. There are a few reviews up now to sort of guide the way to what can be done.

Any advice/input/help anyone is willing to contribute would be greatly appreciated, and , of course, credited~! the link to the website is below.

Thanks--!

Bill
