I guess this post is more a question for Laura but anyone can answer. I heard an interview not to long ago that took place with the writers of the Jack Benny Program. They mentioned a time when Rochester and A friend got lost on a yacht at sea and almost missed a broadcast. They were rescued by the Coast Guard. Does anyone know what happened?

You've pretty much got the gist of the story there. The key (as I'm sure the writers mentioned) was their hearing about it and deciding to incorporate it into the show for that week. He didn't really "almost miss the broadcast", but I believe (relying on memory) that the writers had a radio on while they were working on the show and heard a news bulletin saying that Rochester was lost at sea, and later heard that he had been rescued.
