The Simpsons Movie

Postby ZEjackbennykid » Wed Aug 16, 2006 1:45 pm

The Simpsons Movie opens July 27, 2007 starring among many Jack Benny TV show alumni Harry Shearer, playing Mr. Burns, Smithers, Ned Flanders, etc...

Please See This When Released If Not For Harry, Then For What Will Surely Be The Best Movie of Next Year

The Simpsons has really gone downhill the past few seasons. For years, it was must-see in our house on Sunday nights. But now we watch only occasionally and, when we do, we're startled to see how bad and unfunny it's gotten. A perfect example was this year's Halloween special. Not a single funny moment in any of the three mini-episodes. The War of the Worlds spoof was especially lame. It's a shame what's happened to that once great show.

I must say Roman that your attitude is not the kinda response I was looking for, but as Dennis Day would say " To Each His Own"

I'll be seeing the movie, though I don't get the point of it while the TV show is still in production. What is it that you can do in an animated feature that you can't in an animated TV show? Is it really going to be THAT different?

I confess my Simpsons viewing has waned a bit as well as the show has gotten a little more hit and miss, but even lesser Simpsons for me is still good TV. It's really an institution at this point.

The story structure of a feature is completely different. It'll be interesting to see how they handle that. The movie will feel a lot slower to the audience than the TV version.

I used to be on the Simpsons newsgroup maybe seven or eight years ago. People were complaining THEN the show had gone downhill.

I'm yet another former big-time Simpsons fan who barely watches it these past few years. Isn't it often acknowledged (even beyond more hard-core groups like "newsgroup") that they peaked roughly mid90's?

According to jumptheshark.com, http://www.jumptheshark.com/s/simpsons.htm more people say the Simpson's never "jumped the shark" than the next most popular choice. (by a 10:1 margin.) The Simpsons must still have something right! (I stopped watching TV in the early '90s, but I am collecting the Simpson's DVDs season by season when they come out.)

I still watch The Simpsons (and find it much funnier still than Family Guy). It's not as consistently funny as it used to be, but it still makes me laugh.

I never was a huge Simpsons fan, Though it can be quite funny at times. I think Family Guy would have had potential if it didnt constantly go for the gross-out, bad taste plots and jokes imo.If they could have wrote the humor more classically funny than they have,,It would have been a much better show..

In defense of The Simpsons, even if the last few seasons have been weaker, the fact that they were able to maintain such high quality over such a long period is really amazing. Most comedies seem to run out of gas after just a couple of seasons (and some run out before they've even begun). Even Warner Brother's Looney Tunes had plenty of misses among the great classics. For sustained quality, I don't think many sitcoms can compare to The Simpsons.
