Don Wilson Announcing....

Postby Michael » Mon Oct 02, 2006 9:29 pm

I'm in the process of listening to the 9/21/39 WJSV broadcast day... I just got to the Joe E Brown show.... and the announcer was Don Wilson. Once I got over the surprise  I began wondering how & why Don was announcing for another show other than Jack's. The only thing I can think of is the product being pushed (Post Toasties) was made by the same Company that made Jello.

Don Wilson announced for several shows other than Jack Benny. A guy had to make a living :) BTW, The Sportsmen sang on "The Joe E. Brown Show" as well :D

This page (http://www.jackbenny.org/biography/other/don_wilson.htm) lists some of the other shows for which Don announced. I believe that I also read that, before he began working on Jack's program, he had also announced the World Series and the 1932 Olympics.

I remember seeing Don in an old Jerry Lewis - Dean Martin movie. I can't remember the title, but it was about the two being joining the navy or something like that. I don't remember much about it and now I haven't the foggiest notion what Don was doing in the movie. Does anyone remember this movie? :?

That'd be SAILOR BEWARE from 1952. I haven't seen it, but the IMDB lists Don's character as "Mr. Chubby" (!).
