Skits vs. movies

Has anyone ever made a conscious effort to compare Jack's skits of movies to the actual movies themselves? These skits go all the way back to the earliest days of the series and the oft-repeated Grand Hotel skit. There are many where I've heard Jack's version but not seen the movie. His version of "High Noon" (done twice) is very good, and pretty darn true to the storyline of the movie. So's "Gaslight". On the other hand, almost the exact same skit was done for "Treasure of Sierra Madre" and "Wings of the Hawk", and I haven't seen either of those movies.

His parody of Casablanca takes one of the most famous scenes in the movie (where Humphrey Bogart is brooding over losing Ingrid Bergman) and just does a take-off on that. It's especially funny if you've seen the film--especially the payoff to the sketch where Ingrid Bergman (played by Minerva Pious) shows up.

Jack's version of "Sunset Blvd." is a gem. The first time I ever saw the film, a friend told me to stop laughing because it was, in his words, "a serious drama". Listening to Jack's spoof just makes me laugh more.

Another favorite move spoof is "Snow White".

And, of course, "Casablanca" with the lovely and talented Minerva Pious in the Ingrid Bergman role. Funny, funny stuff.

Some of the movie spoofs Jack did I like just as much...if not more...than the original film!

Jack's show (both on radio and TV) was sort of the "Carol Burnett Show" of its day with its hilarious movie spoofs. Jack is acknowledged as being the first radio comedian to regularly do send-ups of popular films, and they were a very popular feature of his show.....although I STILL can't believe that Jack didn't get sued by Walt Disney for what he and his cast did to "SNOW WHITE"!

Uncle Walt could'nt have been too upset with Jack. He consented to do an extended sketch with Jack on his first hour NBC special after the cancellation of his show in 1965..The one with the Beach Boys, Bob Hope and Elke Sommer

That's only because Jack always remembered not to put too much starch in Walt's shirts!
