Movie Recommendation

Postby Mike » Thu Aug 05, 2004 11:39 pm

The only way I can think to link this item to Jack's Associates is that Gisele MacKenzie sang and recorded many of Cole Porter's songs. I am referring to the current movie release "De-Lovely," the story of Cole Porter's life. I went to see the movie a second time tonight, and actually enjoyed it more the second time around. Although it didn't get very good press, I think it is better than the reviews seemed to suggest, and is worth seeing on a big screen. The movie suggests the glamor of the 20's, 30's, 40's and the "Golden Age." I was especially
impressed by Ashley Judd's performance as a "society woman," but played in a very natural, non high fallutin manner. When she was onscreen, I forgot I was watching a movie, and she made me believe she was someone I could really fall in love with. There is quite bit of comedy in the movie, including a scene of Cole and "Louis B. Mayer" and others on the MGM backlot doing a sendup version of "Be A Clown." I think this is a movie worth seeing. New Cole Porter Museum

They are in the planning stages for a museum in honor of America's greatest songwriter-lyricist, Cole Porter, at his boyhood home in Peru, Indiana. I think it's a great idea! Read all about it:

Hmmm...I think Irving Berlin's fans might argue with your characterization of Porter.

Yes, there are Gershwin fans aplenty. but what I was referring to was songwriters who ALSO wrote their own lyrics. In that regard, I don't think anyone can surpass Cole Porter in the sophistication of the lyrics. As far as I'm concerned, 'He's the top'!

Cole Porter? Irving Berlin? Paul McCartney? All no-talent HACKS!

Let's not forget that Jack Benny wrote the music AND the lyrics for "When You Say 'I Beg Your Pardon', Then I'll Come Back To You"....

Now THAT was a SONG!

I don't think I've heard that song. Where can I hear it? Is it on one of the shows? Mike

I bought this book. It's a terrific book! (and a real bargain at only $35). Mike
