Art Linkletter meets Jack Benny again!

Postby Jack Benny » Sat Jul 02, 2005 10:05 pm

Hello all,

I'm currently at Disneyland with my family! I was in front of the Disneyland Resort, when my wife noticed an older man getting a lot of attention from folks. I said, "I think that is Art Linkletter!" She said go ask, so I did and he said, "All day long!" I shook his hand and told him that I had recently watched his apperance on the Jack Benny Show. I could tell he was a little surprised at that. He was very kind. Laura, you might want to try and arrange an interview with him, to find out some of his memories about being on Jack's show! I'd hurry though he was born in 1912.
Your pal,
Buck Benny

Actually, he owes me a phone call. He has already committed to granting me an interview, but just needs to set a time. I was fortunate enough to meet him at the SPERDVAC convention last year, and he is great!

It's interesting that you saw Art Linkletter at Disneyland, since he was the main M.C. for ABC-TV's live, televised opening of the Disneyland theme park in 1955. Other hosts on the live telecast were Robert Cummings and Ronald Reagan, but Art was the main host.

It's been written that Walt Disney personally selected Art Linkletter as the main host because Walt was so impressed with Art's "quick on your feet" ad-lib ability, which was needed on this live "opening day" telecast where just about anything could go wrong!
