What Jack Benny fans do when they're not enjoying Jack Benny, other perfomers, shows, etc. that you might enjoy investigating

This may be a stupid question but I'm wondering about something as I listen to Radio Classics. Did people actually advertise to go on adventures, such as was done in Let George Do It and Box 13?Doesn't seem likely, yet at least those two shows used that as a hook. Wondered if anyone had any ideas.

People may have offered investigative services, but as with all things in entertainment the shows were more exciting than the reality.

If you can find a microfiche of old newspapers from a major city you can peruse the classified ad sections looking for investigators or people willing to take on odd tasks.

I assumed it was too good to be true. I think it's interesting when they post a classified ad telling someone something. What if that person doesn't read the classifieds? I guess they would have discussed communicating that way beforehand.
