I just stumbled upon this site by accident and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm only in Pmy late 30s but I think I live in the 40s, I have a 41 Ford Tudor and a 49 Ford F1 that I drive daily. I drive trucks so I have Xm and that's how I discovered Jack, the Jack Benny Program is my favorite but I also like Fibber Mcgee also as that's the name I go by on the net,but I love most golden age radio. I personaly think Jack was the best comedian ever and his timing couldn't be matched. I don't know if this is the place to introduce myself as I just found this forum tonight,if its not I apologize . I hope to learn alot from here and I'm glad to see people still appreciate Jack Benny.

Hi Fibber. I'm not a spokesman for the board or anything, I just kind of found it like you did. But it's always a pleasure to welcome a fellow Jack Benny fan. There aren't many of us, but what can I say? Good taste is an endangered species. The posters on this board are very knowledgeable and provide interesting material on JB. Some, like me, are old enough to have watched Jack when his TV show was airing. I'm not so old as to go back to the radio show, which is far superior to the TV version in my view. There are tapes of something like 600 shows are available, and they are comic gold, especially with the classic cast (Jack, Rochester, Don, Mary, Dennis and Phil). The head of IJBFC, Laura, is a walking encyclopedia on the subject. I've been posting hear for 4-5 years, and I think that traffic is trending toward the facebook page, so you should check that too. The link is on the IJBFC homepage.

If you can afford it, buy Laura's books. They are expensive but amazing. List of every show, who was in it, where it was taped, summary of the show, and more. I also welcome you to the board. Really enjoyable.

Thanks for the greetings, I don't understand why there aren't many of us, except lack of exposure. If someone can't see the comic genius of Jack there's something wrong, I understand it takes a little more thought to understand sometimes but the new comedians dont compare. I love the fact that he makes you laugh without being vulgar. I try to spread the word when I can.

People are trained to accept humor certain ways. The delivery of jokes and characterizations of 100 years ago was very different. Today dirty jokes are considered normal, and audiences expect that. Look at the state of TV sitcoms today. The black and white era of TV appeals to people who remember it and the few who want to discover it.

There are enough of us to keep Jack Benny and Fibber McGee relevant even if our numbers are low. The shows are perfect for kids. Do what you can to introduce them to radio shows when they are young before they fall in line with the mainstream humor of today.

Hi, and welcome! Try to join us for the monthly chats, if you can. They can be lots of fun. I love listening to the recordings of Jack's radio program and, to a slightly lesser degree, watching the TV shows. I think I prefer the radio versions marginally because in them Jack and his crew stretch the listener's imagination. I mean...sight gags on the radio? They make it work! Jack had an understanding of and an ease with the medium that I doubt anyone ever matched.
