Today I rode a steam-powered train through.... Cuc-amonga!

Restored Santa Fe locomotive #3751 was built in 1927 as a coal burner-- therefore it operated on their midwestern lines at first. In 1936 it was converted to oil, and by 1940 it had larger driving wheels and a HUGE oil/water tender. Retirement came in the mid-1950s.
Today it ran from L.A. to San Bernardino under the sponsorship of Metrolink... return trip tomorrow (I came home on a regular train.)
Unfortunately I was distracted and I didn't notice Cucamonga... even though I drive through there fairly often.

Cucamonga

Postby jbennyfan39 » Wed May 12, 2010 2:12 pm

Cucamonga built a statue of Jack Benny at their minor league stadium on Jack Benny Way. The statue was later moved to their Victory Gardens Cultural Center, which is at the intersection of Jack Benny Way and Rochester Avenue! It would be worth it to make a stop there sometime to see it, I thnk.

It is so much easier to imagine Jack Benny at a baseball stadium than a cultural center. It would be so much easier to sell peanuts at a baseball stadium.

But I'll bet the cultural center has some high class art on display... folks probably stand around and share their thoughts about it... Jack would want to state his own opinion... "Well I think..."
"AH, SHUT UP!!!!!"
