Retro TV - Jack Benny re-runs

Postby comedybrad » Sun Sep 05, 2010 8:52 pm

Forgive me if you already know this....

Retro TV holds the rights to access a bunch of Universal Studios TV programs and they are running Jack Benny at 8:00 am on Retro TV in the Arizona market. I noticed on their website that it runs at different times in different markets. For example in West Virginia, it runs late in the evening and they show two episodes back to back!

Here is a link to their programming schedules in various parts of the country. IJBFC members will have to check their State and local cable schedules to see when and IF they are running Benny in the area...

Don't get me started! They moved it from 9-10 Sunday nights to the 7-8 PM slot on Sundays! Perfect for Benny fans right, but nooooooo they preempt whatever is on from 7-8 Sunday nights with a re-run of the days news! They put Benny on at the absolutely perfect time, then took it away!!!!!!!!!

I called the station and they fixed the problem! I've been enjoying Jack from 7-8 every Sunday for the last 6 months or so! I look so forward to Sunday's at 7, and I guess I'm experiencing just the tip of the iceberg of what it must have felt like for the close to 40 years that he lived with the prime time audience!

Well, on the East Coast maybe. On radio in Los Angeles, Jack ran at 4 in the afternoon for years. If you were listening to NBC in the 1944-45 season, for example, you would have heard news and 25 minutes of music from 7 to 7:30. On the day Jack moved to CBS in 1949, he was airing at both 4 and 9:30 in Los Angeles for the rest of his radio career. So it's kind of like he had two shows.

In 1940-41, he was on at 8:30 (The Hour of Charm was on at 7).

P.S. I've forgotten which episode it was on, but the joke about Fred Waring/Frost Warning was based on reality. "Frost Warning" actually was on KFI from 8 to 8:05 p.m.
