Jerry Brown (remember him?)

Former California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. ("Jerry") is the likely Democratic nominee for the office in 2010. Some commentators were... well, commenting... on his repeating somebody's description of him as "a Jack Benny-type governor-- always watching his pennies." One article mentioned a 25-year-old supporter who "didn't get the reference to the comedian from the black-and-white television era."

This is both hilarious and terribly tragic.

Speaking of California, can you imagine a few years back during the California governor recall election fiasco if JB had been around? You can bet on top of Gracie Allen running for governor, Jack would have thrown his name on there.

I got this from a member this week:

laura, yesterday (monday) afternoon on "the john and ken show" (the #1
rated radio show in L.A.) they were talking about jack. the subject came
up in connection with something jerry brown supposedly said about "not
watching tv since jack benny was on". it was something like that.
anyway, they went on to talk about jack for a minute or 2. john
especially seemed to have some good memories of jack and said he was
"very funny." i think that was around 2:25pm. (the show is on 2-7pm).

Funny, because Brown and I work out at the same gym and I see him there regularly. I always feel like he's got enough people trying to grab his time so why interrupt his workout, but maybe I'll find a way to say something Benny-related to him!
