Well! The Jack Benny Figure project is on!

Postby Geronimo » Tue Aug 21, 2012 8:43 pm

For many years, I enjoyed Jack Benny's humor through reruns of the Jack Benny program as well as his guest appearances on various variety shows. I also grew up in an era where action figures (GI Joe and others) began to be produced, and most recently, celebrity and Super Hero figures have become commonplace for new movies, etc. I guess I had hoped sculpts and figures would eventually be offered for classic comedians such as Jack Benny and others. Unfortunately, this has not been the case, however recently I started to realize that...

some of the old Marx toy company "Best of the West" figures (from the 50's and 60's) bore resemblances to stars from that time (John Wayne, Dean Martin). Well, with a little bit of hairline adjustment, i found that one figure bore a resemblance to Jack! I am posting some pictures...let me know what you think! Does it look like Jack?

Not sure who else it could be if not Jack. Maybe someone needs to do a bobblehead of Jack. There's a company that makes them of celebrities and historical figures.

Well! I'm impressed! If it goes into production, I'll buy one. Don't forget the Maxwell! He'll need a ride! (Mary sold separately)

Sorry but I'm not where my bobble head is so I can't say offhand the name of the company that made it.

The poses are perfect, but the face on that figure is too narrow to be Jack Benny.

I do see your point...the challenge of course is that Jack was thinner in his earlier years, and a bit fuller in his later years. Hairlines at different points in time as well as "with" or "without" glasses also play a role in resemblance. Below you will find a picture of Jack from the late 40's early 50's era...his face was a bit thinner there. You will also find a collage that compares "with and without" glasses. I can't decide which is the closer resemblance. Anyone have any thoughts? Any comments or recommendations to help improve resemblance are welcomed!

On eBay there are heads made for different models, or maybe heads for action figures, that might work. You need one with a wider skull, but not just someone with an odd shaped head.
