Ring tones

Postby Clyde » Wed Sep 08, 2010 1:26 pm

Ok, so I am a Betamax living in a DVD world. I can handle that. But I was wondering, how do I download one of the 'sound bites' on the main page to use as the 'ring' on my cell phone???

Thanks....

It'll depend on your cell phone and carrier! If you have a Sprint phone, I probably can help you.

You might want to call customer service, since it may vary with your phone capabilities. They probably have something online, but sometimes it's better to just have someone walk you through it.

FWIW, I have worked in wireless telecommunications for well over a decade, helped put in the first U.S. text message system, and I've never set my ringtone to anything other than something already loaded on the phone, and hardly ever text. I get to play with cutting-edge stuff at work, so I prefer to play with vintage stuff in the off hours.

I don't know, something about that sounds very Bennyesque.

Jack: Why would anyone pay to use a ringtone when there's a perfectly good one that comes with the phone? And why would I pay fifteen dollars a month for unlimited texting when I could just call someone and talk to them for three minutes and get more said that way? The minutes are already in the plan! And if I wait until night, I can talk as long as I want to!

Rochester: Yeah, Boss, you're the only person I know that calls someone at 5:59 in the morning just so you're still using your night time minutes. And you're the only person I've seen keep a timetable of the exact seconds they use for every phone call.

Jack: I do not! But I'll tell you what, if I am paying for 450 minutes a month, brother, you better believe I am going to use them all!

Phil: That's why I've got a rollover plan!

Jack: Rollover?

Phil: Yeah, someone calls me in the morning at the first of the month, I don't have to worry about using my minutes. I just rollover with the bourbon in my hand and go back to sleep!

I can't imagine Jack having anything but a pre-pay cell phone. $15 a month keeps me connected, albeit bell-and-whistle free. For example, I can't use any of the cool Benny ring tones, but that's not enough to tip the balance for me towards a "real" cell phone.

If Jack could set uniques ringtones, what would he pick for
Mary...
Phil...
Don...
Dennis...
Rochester...
The two guys from the IRS?
And what would they pick for their ringtones when Jack calls?
This is all bad news for Gertrude and Mabel.
That's funny, Norman Krasna loved that joke.

First of all, Clyde, "Betamax living in a DVD world" should be "Betamax in a Blu-ray world."

Instead of actually having a cell phone, picture Jack always saying how he seems to have misplaced his cell phone and desperately needs to make a call. He would then have to convince one of the gang to let him borrow their cell phone (and use their minutes), sort of like getting out of a bet with Rochester.
