Here's an obscure one..."short version" of a musical number

Postby Hank the All-Nite DJ » Wed Nov 16, 2011 7:35 pm

There was a great moment in a radio program that I can't find right now.

I want to say they were doing a show on the road and Jack instructs Phil to play a number. The band plays for about fifteen seconds and quietly fades out. Jack is caught off guard and says something like, "That was the short version...(laughing)...Why didn't you tell me!?"

Was it at a military base? Did Jack interrupt with something like "Hold it fellas hold it, there's no time... Sorry Phil" just as the tune got underway? Hmmm.
Speaking of short tunes... there's a slightly over 1 minute rockin' version of Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow on the Jan 1, 1946 episode. Its played with exceptionally electric gusto so I'm adding it to my Christmas light display this year.
That's funny, Norman Krasna loved that joke.

Found a "band number cutoff" last night. In the Jan. 18, 1948 show from Denver the band doesn't play very long before Jack cuts them off. The Denver band appears to be an aggravation of local musicians. This was a March of Dimes kick-off show.

OK Hank, this must be the band number cutoff you were thinking of... It's only a few episodes after the Denver, Colorado band number cut-off. It was the show from March 7,1948 where we learn all about Jack's gig as the walking man. This was a first rate episode. Mrs. Florence Hubbard (the winner of the walking man contest) and the lines they gave her were more than just comic folk art. Mrs. Hubbard had just enough nervousness to convince us she wasn't being portayed by an actor, and she broought home the laughs like a pro. This may be an indication of Jack's directorial abilities. Watching him work with her in rehearsal probably would have been worth 3 hours of college directing credit.
