Hi folks,

Anyone know the name of the classical number played by Oscar Levant on the November 30, 1958 program? Thanks in advance!

IMDB says:

"Piano Solo"
(uncredited)
Written and Performed by Oscar Levant

Don't know how accurate that is (the "written" part).

If you have a mike of some kind for your computer, you could use Audacity. Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) is a free and simple program to download and use. You could just play the DVD on your computer, and have Audacity record it using your mike, and then export it as a .WAV or .MP3 (I think to save it as a .mp3 you need some codecs though, I don't remember fully).

Someone might have a better idea though.

I read here that you wanted to extract an audio clip from a DVD file
This can best be acieved by loading the entire episode to your computer, then using Nero recode, you can "trim" the sequence to include only the bit with Levant. Afterwards, you can "convert" the film clip file to an mp3
using one of the freebie downloaders that convert audio files.

That should do the trick.

I use a mac, but I'm sure there are other options for a PC. Here is a step-by-step approach using a mac.

1) "rip" the DVD using a DVD ripper (Mac the Ripper or Handbrake are good options) This yields a master folder with a couple of other folders inside it. Probably you will have a "VIDEO_TS" folder and an "AUDIO_TS" folder.
2) You will have a bunch of .VOB files inside the "Video_TS" folder, find the one that has the clip in it you are looking for. (I use MPEG Streamclip for this, but I think Quicktime will read .VOB files. They are simply video files in an MPEG format.)
3) Isolate and trim the particular clip you want, (or if you can't separate the files, just leave it as one long file.)
4) Export the selection as Audio Only. (Again, I use MPEG Streamclip for steps 2-4.) Depending on your software you can either export it as an MP3 or convert it to MP3 in another step.

If that's too confusing but you still want to pursue it, contact me and we'll figure something out.
