A challenge

Postby LLeff » Fri Aug 20, 2010 11:34 am

Hi folks,

Quick drive-by...need to catch up on the Forum posts.

But real fast for anyone who's got a copy of the Lawrence Welk show, here's a challenge. What is the name of the first musical number that the band plays right after they are introduced?

I haven't seen the show in a couple of years, but according to IMDB, it's Welk's theme, "Bubbles in the Wine."

If it sounds like this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INUcNRkpxXM, that's what it was.

One of the trombonists in that band was one of my favorite jazz trombonists, Bob Havens. Sadly he doesn't get to solo anywhere.

Fantastic! I should know that, having grown up on Lawrence Welk. But it's more fun to share the research. Good job!

You're quite welcome. I was surprised when I was researching this that "Bubbles in the Wine" was written by Frank Loesser. Truly one of his lesser works (pun not originally intended) when you consider the music from things like "Guys and Dolls," "Most Happy Fella," etc.
