A columnist named Nadine Subotnik has this item in her missive of July 8, 1951:

ARTIE Auerbach, who plays "Mr. Kitzel" on the Jack Benny show, has written a book of Broadway and Hollywood anecdotes—"Crums for Bums" by title. It's slated to come out in August.

Anyone know anything about it?

Doesn't seem to have been published. The Library of Congress has no listing (though Artie Auerbach does appear five times--as a guest in Jack Benny Show episodes!).

Though doing an internet search for the book produces no results, I did find something a little odd: a blog at http://www.jitterbuzz.com/lif0203.html that mentions Artie Auerbach's appearances on the Jack Benny show. Oddly, the blog contends that until Auerbach appeared on the show, "though everyone in the cast was Jewish, there were no references to Jewish culture."

Which discounts Schlepperman, Jack's occasional references to his "right name," his fondness for pickled herring ("Yum!"), and a few other things. Not to mention that the ethnicity of Eddie Anderson, Dennis Day, and one or two other cast members....

Seems as good a place as any to bring up an off-JB-topic question: Can anyone tell me the names of any of the actors in the circa 1934 series "Mama Bloom's Brood" ???
