Gisele MacKenzie - New CD!

Postby Mike » Sun Jun 13, 2004 2:53 pm

There is a brand new CD from England that is really good. It's called "Gisele MacKenzie - Canada's First Lady Of Song." It's a mix of quite a few of her early songs. There has been audio restoration, and she sounds GREAT. Some of the early French songs are included, and they sound prettier to me than on other versions that I've heard, (as do the others). Most of the songs are in English, and include some of her overlooked singles, and other standards, and a few duets with Helen O'Connell and Gordon MacRae. There are also SEVERAL songs that I had never heard her sing before, such as "Zing! Went The Strings Of My Heart," "Let's Take The Long Way Home," and "I Could Write A Book." There are about 30 songs altogether. They have done an exceptionally good job of putting together this CD, and in the audio restoration. Gisele's voice comes through clear and strong. This one is really worth getting. I bought mine at Tower Records. It's also available on Amazon. (For some reason Amazon is not displaying the beautiful cover picture of a very pretty Gisele against a Canadian lake).
In addition, Gisele is also on the not long ago released Jack Paar Collection DVD set. Her name is not on the outside of the box, but she is on the first show of the third disc. She sings three Broadway songs, and sounds terrific. Bette Davis also makes an amusing appearance on the same show. I highly recommend this one also. Mike in L.A.
