The Shadow: International Crime question

Postby ethanmuse » Tue Dec 04, 2007 2:12 pm

I recently rented the old Shadow movie International Crime. The movie wasn't anything that gripped me, so I quit watching after just a couple of minutes. However, one thing did catch my attention. The very first person shown in the film was a radio announcer introducing The Shadow's broadcast, and I swear that the announcer was a young Frank Nelson. His name wasn't credited, but it looked just like him (without the mustache), and it also sounded just like him when he's using his normal voice.

Here's a link to it on Youtube. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... &plindex=0

Does anybody else think that's Frank Nelson besides me?

Geez, that's a damned good question. I've paused it on a frontal view and it really doesn't look much like him. But it sure sounds like Frank's normal voice, though. And he was in Hollywood in 1938.

I love the art deco sign and the model of a building they pan up in the opening.

I want to say, yes, it is Frank Nelson. Without proof it is only speculation, but that is who I think it really is.

I have a Bulldog Drummond movie with a short scene of a radio announcer that looks and sounds like a young Frank Nelson. I remember looking for the credits of that movie at www.imdb.com. Nelson was not credited, but he had other uncredited roles as a radio announcer at the same time as the Shadow film, International Crime.

What about the cab driver?

Postby krledu » Wed Dec 05, 2007 3:13 pm

I was watching that clip on YouTube and noticed the cab driver. He kinda sounds fomilar but does anyone know who he might be. He reminds of the guy who used to play Schlepperman.

I didn't get that far into watching it. I've only seen Schlepperman on one episode, and it's been several years. I don't remember what he looks like. I only remember that he's in the filmed episode of Jack and Rochester returning by boat from Hawaii with Jayne Mansfield (remake of the episode with Marilyn Monroe and Mr. Kitzel).

Lew Hearn

I just looked up the cab driver from this movie on IMBD and it said it as the same guy who played Schlepperman on Jack Benny's show. But they said his name was Lew Hearn. I thought it was Sam Hearn.

It is.

Sites like IMDB and others where anyone can enter whatever they want aren't entirely to be trusted.
