Percy Kilbride

If you've read any biographical information about Jack Benny, then you know that Jack was almost fired from a film because he couldn't stop laughing during a take with Percy Kilbride. I just purchased "The Adventures of Ma & Pa Kettle Volume 1" (the Franchise Collection dvd), starring among others, Percy Kilbride. While I'm not inclined to offer an outright review, I must say that I have enjoyed all four films and that this was a complete bargain. Bought it at a giant discount store for about $15.00. The quality of it is WONDERFUL! I have quite a few black and white films in my movie collection and seldom have I seen one where they evidentally took such a great deal of care in making the transfer to digital video. The picture is extremely crisp and clear, and the sound is quite pristeen. I hope that some Benny films get this kind of treatment.

Kilbride was also a recurring character on the radio show during the war years, usually as someone who was delivering a telegram or some sort of gatekeeper, and insisting on all the proper signatures, ID, etc. claiming, "Regulations, y'know!"
