Frank Nelson in Comic Strip "Gasoline Alley"

Frank Nelson (or somebody acting and looking suspiciously like him) is a salesman in "Gasoline Alley." I first saw him in the September 17, 2015 strip, and he is in the September 18, 2015 strip as well:

From reading the comments here, this isn't the first time the character has been here.

The comments are interesting... some vague and some strong recollections by the commentors... A good example of a "vague" recollection is the comment that mixes Frank up with Mel... stating that this is the "Si Cy" guy. Right or wrong, they identified the character with the Jack Benny Program so Jack wins again in 2015!
That's funny, Norman Krasna loved that joke.

Jim Scancarelli was collecting OTR on reel to reel tapes back in the 1960's, and still listens to OTR today. I sent him shoelaces for Christmas one year and he got the joke right away. I sent him a gopher trap another year. Jack Benny jokes and references have shown up in his Gasoline Alley strip many times over the last 30 years.
