Mary Livingstone Dyslexic?

Postby brewcityjr » Sat Mar 24, 2012 1:43 am

All right folks...a tough question. Yes, I know the typical cant is that Mary had stage frieght (a Marx Bros. Cousin? Shyaaa right). But having listened to her mistakes time and time (and time and time) again, I wonder about that analysis. I mean...Chiss sweeze, Grass Reek, and my favorite, 'your darn one last year made it', not to mention a few others, makes me seriously wonder if she was dyslexic. It wouldn't have been diagnosed in the 30's, or even the 40's, and easily pawned off as stage frieght...am I on to something here? BTW...Brew City Junior here...new member, life long fan of Jack..pleased to meetcha, and hope that my first question was a doozy..
Instead of many small flakes, I want one giant twleve ounce flake!

The mistakes have nothing to with stage fright. I've been in radio over 36 years and people I work with spoonerise phrases on occasion on the air. It just happens.

In an adaptation of a horror story I scripted for the Atlanta Radio Theatre company, one of the founders of the group who was also the head writer and the main director, took the part of a geologist. The orginal story had the character saying "We've discovered fossiliferous strata..."

My friend, whose voice was melifluous and who was meticulous about pacing and pronunciation, breezed along with that in table reads and rehearsals. Then, in live performance:

"We've discovered flossiflussiflofloflosifus strata...."

Though I had suggested he change the word to "fossil-bearing." Maybe it was my suggestion that did it, I dunno.
