Benny Rubin ( I don't know )

Postby helloagain » Sun Sep 20, 2009 7:18 pm

I have always enjoyed Benny Rubin's appearances on the Jack Benny show, as well as his other work in movies and TV. I know he played many uncredited roles on the Benny show, the best known being the man behind the information counter who doesn't know anything. I don't know much about him, other than what his online biographies tell. I always felt he was very underrated and unappreciated as a performer, usually doing small roles. His name is listed in the cast of the Al Jolson movie 'Go into your Dance', but he is only on screen for a couple seconds. The rest must have hit the cutting room floor. I have one or two short films from about 1930 which feature him as the lead character, so I assume he must have been a headliner at one time. Does anyone know any more about him and his career?
"Hey, Jackson, does Fred Allen always talk through his nose?"

"Yes, Phil. He's the only comedian who tells 'em and smells 'em at the same time!"
