Billboard Magazine used to do reviews of radio shows, occasionally written with potential sponsors in mind.
The issue of July 5, 1947 has a review of Blue Ribbon Music Time, apparently of the show of June 26th. It was on Thursdays at 10:30 pm on NBC. It featured David Rose's orchestra (36 pieces, 22 strings) and Georgia Gibbs. The review talks about the numbers on one particular show:
The program wound up with a Rose original Waukegan Concerto, based upon the notorious punishment inflicting upon a simple violin exercise by Jack Benny. The arrangement delivered an impressive number of variations on the them, each fresh and lively, with a brief, wheezy touch of Love in Bloom tossed in as a topper.
Has anyone heard this?
The song it still under an ASCAP license.
