Don Wilson Leaves For New York

Postby Yhtapmys » Wed May 20, 2009 5:23 am

If anyone was wondering when Don got a job at NBC, it was revealed in the Los Angeles Times on Saturday, Sept. 23rd. I won't print the whole radio column, just the portions that mention Don.

The pigskin parade begins this afternoon at the Coliseum with a battle between the Trojans, Occidental and Whittier. Six stations are broadcasting the game. Gary Breckner presides at KHJ's microphone, Don Wilson is KFI's sports commentator, Stuart Buchanan returns to that capacity for KNX, Frank Bull for KRKD, Mark Kelly for KFWB, and Jack Kiefer, Marshall Duffield and Walter Bird for KMPC. ...
TUNING-IN
Congratulations are in order. Don Wilson, KFI-KECA chief announcer, leaves for the East Tuesday to become a special sports commentator and announcer for N.B.C. in New York.

Rumours began circulating almost when he arrived that he was leaving the network. NBC put that to rest, as reported by the LA Times on Nov. 4. Unfortunately, I can't read the rest of the story to see what assignment NBC had for him.

Earlier in September, KFI-KECA had requested NBC allow him to do a Notre Dame football game in South Bend.
