Jack, Phil and Andy

I'd have to listen back and hear if this was just a gag on the show or if it really happened. The newspaper column suggests the latter but I thought I heard it on the show.

Andy Devine, the new Mayor of Van Nuys, California, will have to revise his standards of dress before Jack Benny will approve him as a typical executive.
When Andy appeared at a recent Benny rehearsal decked out in a polo shirt, sports jacket and loud slacks, Jack observed, "A fine way for a mayor to dress. Yon don't see LaGuardia dressing like a preview of a Hollywood tailor's nightmare!"
Which reminds us that Phil Harris, Jack's band leader, had to turn over to the city of Van Nuys exactly $12.50 to listen to Fred Allen's program last week. Harris had his car radio tuned to the broadcast and became so engrossed in the comedy that he clipped right through a red light in Andy's town.
And Andy, who was recently fined in Encino, Phil's home town, didn't recommend leniency for Harris when he heard about the latter's predicament.
"Anyway," Andy observed, "Van Nuys needed the $12.50."
