Jack and Mary's Final Resting Place

Postby Roman » Thu Jan 19, 2006 10:07 am

As many know, Jack Benny and Mary Livingstone are buried at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in the Los Angeles area. There are an impressive number of entertainers buried there including many who were friends and colleagues of Jack's and Mary's, such as Milton Berle, Eddie Cantor, Dinah Shore, George Jessel, Al Jolson, and Sheldon Leonard. Michael Landon, Moe Howard, Nell Carter, and Hank Greenberg are among many other famous entertainers and sports legends also buried there. For anyone who wishes to remember Jack and Mary by visiting their grave. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillside_M ... k_Cemetery

Thanks, Roman. My wife and I are going to be in LA next month, and I'd like to visit Jack's and Mary's final resting place. We were there last spring, too, but we had lunch with Eddie and Carolyn Carroll, who were so entertaining that we let the time slip away and had to be on the road before we could take time to visit Hillside.

We made it!

Barbara and I did get to visit Hillside, and here we are placing a Georgia pebble amid the little pile of lose change that other visitors had left. I felt very happy that we'd come, but thinking of all the laughter and joy Jack has brought me over many years, I couldn't help feeling grief, too.

I was at Benny's funeral

Postby Vibrani » Sun Nov 25, 2007 2:56 pm

I arrived a little early. I went up to the location where Jack Benny would be buried. It was roped off. I was let in - I gave off the vibe that I was family and they didn't question me. I spent a few minutes there and the men guarding the area told me they thought I was family. I told them, no, but he sure felt like family. Jack Benny looked, walked, and had the same mannerisms my dad had, so he felt like family to me. We watched his shows every time they were on telelvision.

Then, I went down the hill to the temple hall where the services were being held. The cemetary was packed with Hollywood stars and fans, all talking about how much they loved Benny. What an event. So sad to say farewell to Benny, but so amazing to see how loved he was.
