Jack with The Quiz Kids

Postby CBSTelevisionCity » Mon Nov 01, 2010 10:38 am

Just listened to an episode of Alka-Seltzer's Quiz Kids, from Chicago (NBC's studios inside the Merchandise Mart?), with Wendell Niles announcing. Jack's guest-starring on the show. Is it me, or does Jack sound real grouchy?? Does anyone know what else Jack was doing in Chicago on May 26, 1946?
There's also a terrific old movie theatre-style pipe organ which is heard occasionally during the show. - William Carroll, Denham Springs, Louisiana

Merchandise Mart studio E was the correct location for Quiz Kids according to this enjoyable virtual tour:

But no mention of a pipe organ in Studio E:

Here's a reference to the May 12, 1946 Jack Benny Show with the Quiz Kids:

Maybe the Quiz Kids program you heard was also a remote from the Chicago's Civic Opera House? It probably had a theater organ.
And then there's this bonus illustration of Jack's unassuming nature from the same site:

That's funny, Norman Krasna loved that joke.
