1949 Mary Livingston DVD

Postby CBSTelevisionCity » Sat Nov 22, 2008 10:11 pm

Hi gang, just saw this DVD on eBay and thought it might be of interest to you. It's a 1949 film called "THIS WAY PLEASE" which stars Jim and Marion Jordan as radio's Fibber McGee and Molly, Charles "Buddy" Rogers, Betty Grable, Ned Sparks, and ( look at how big her name is on the poster art ) MARY LIVINGSTON!

Happy Thanksgiving 2008, everyone!

I was having trouble accepting the artwork as "1949"...
... IMDB lists it as a 1937 film.

Seriously doubt it. It's one of those fluffy 30s musicals...much better material to be rereleased before this one got trotted out again. Although there are some good turns with Fibber McGee and Molly and a great number called "I'm the Sound Effects Man".

I haven't seen it, but IMDB indicates the "Sound Effects" song was performed by Rufe Davis-- you might remember seeing him on Petticoat Junction's "Hooterville Cannonball" about 30 years later.

The House Quartet of Fibber McGee and Molly, The King's Men, along with the Billy Miss Orchestra, performed "Sound Effects Man" at least a few times on the Fibber and Molly Show..
