The only one that comes to mind is Belly Laugh Barton who was played by a kid.

Can someone remind me the names of some of those writers, and the cast members actually playing them?

I think that happened more on television. I remember Mel Blanc playing one of his writers a few times. The one show that springs to mind is the Rod Serling episode.

Yes, I was referring to the TV show. I've searched the listings on IMDB and find

Season 8, Episode 16: Hillbilly Act
Herb Vigran ... Sam, Jack's Writer

Season 15, Episode 5: Jack Makes a Comedy Record
Robert Ball ... Bobby, 2nd Writer
Mel Blanc ... 1st Writer

Didn't see any reference in the Rod Serling episode.

I think there was more than these two times, so any other input would be appreciated.

The Writers

Postby krledu » Thu Jan 10, 2008 11:28 pm

Though sometime the writers played themselves. Like in the episode where Jack gets back from touring with the troops and he gets the idea that he is as admiral. There is a bit in there where his is making his writers march.

Another question, who played Sammy the Drummer in the shows? Did he play himself or did another actor do it? I noticed when Jack was re-using some of the old scripts that Sammy was in quite a few. I think in part he was doing some of Phil Harris's old parts though reworked. Just wondering who that was?

The one TV show I recall seeing Sammy in, it was definitely Sammy as himself.

I have seen on the TV shows where Sammy plays himself. But I was wondering more about him on the radio.

Yeah, that's Sammy playing himself. Oddly enough, I don't think Remley ever played himself.

It would be a little awkward considering the wonderfully over the top performance that Elliott Lewis had portrayed of Remeley for so long on the radio. The audience would be expecting Elliott's Remley character. Did Elliott Lewis ever appear on Jack's TV show?
