There's also "Luck-ies taste better...cleaner! fresher! smoother!" ...

I voted for the auctioneer babble. Just because it confuses me how any kind of comprehension occurs or business was ever actually conducted in that style. Maybe I'm just slow!

The worst is, "If you want Better Taste for your Cigarette...Lucky Strikes is the brand to get....it's toasted to give you the best taste yet...it's the toasted....cigarette".

The best is the "Be Happy, Go Lucky" jingle plus anything sung by the Sportsmen....is Golden! :D

I always thought the Herbert Tyson comercials were halarious. There's something about them you like...we can't imagine what, but whatever...there's something about them you like!

Sort of like modern drug commercials. "Ask your doctor about Alevtravitane. It can help make your life more productive and enjoyable, overcoming those little obstacles that get in the way of your ability to enjoy life to the fullest. Ask your doctor about Alextravitane TODAY!"

And listen to the Lucky commercials...they sometimes really sound like they're pushing drugs. "Brings you up when you're low, calms you down when you're tense." 1950 = Lucky Strike 1990 = Prozac

That "words, nonsense, double-talk" ad campaign was very annoying...especially when they would start playing that tape of a guy talking, and they would play it backwards so the words sounded like gibberish.

For a sponsor who gave us such lively and imaginative integrated commercials with the Sportsmen, their straight opening and closing Lucky commercials were typically dry, dull and left a LOT to be desired.

I may be forgetting a more annoying part of the ad, but isn't the "Light up a lucky, its lite-up time" with female singer actually a relatively serene ad?.....at least, not nearly as annoying as the others listed.

Before I vote, is the "rapid fire" commercial the tobacoo auctioneer? I really really hate those. I can't believe they actually opened their show with him for so long.

Well, the auctioneer was pretty ubiquitous. His chant was the opening call for most of these commercials. The "rapid fire" is basically what you hear from about 1944 to 1948, where you have 2-3 announcers plus the two auctioneers all trading off staccato lines like:

Yes sir!
You bet!
Right you are!
Lucky Strike means fine tobacco!
Yes, Lucky Strike means FINE tobacco!
(auctioneer chant)

Etc.

Didn't vote, but the TV commercials for Luckies are in my mind the most annoying--including the animated one and all the ads with actors who seemed to have no experience before a camera at all. They give me a kind of Twilight Zone feeling, like store mannequins brought to life...

There must have been some magic in those Lucky Strikes they found, 'cause when they forced them in their lips, they began to lurch around....

Some of my fondest memories as a kid involved the Lucky Strike auctioneer on the Jack Benny Program and Your Lucky Strike Hit Parade. I used to love trying to imitate him.

Y'know, I missed the rather strange college cheer commercials, where Don boasts that Luckies is gaining so many college smokers. Get 'em young, kids.

I'm sorry this string of comments was abandoned. I listen to Jack Benny radio programs everyday and by far the worst Lucky Strike commercials in my opinion were the double talk ones where they played the commercials backwards. I've always thought, "someone actually got paid for thinking that up?" I kind of liked the other ones. They demonstrated how we've changed in relation to our attitudes about smoking. Back then the tobacco companies actively courted college kids. I'm surprised they didn't go after high school students too! lol!

Kind of ironic that the ones we hate the most are the ones we remember.
