Jack and the censors

Postby LLeff » Wed Mar 10, 2004 6:16 pm

Just listened to a show from 1942 that has a couple of things that may be considered "sneaked by" the censors. Jack is squatting in Errol Flynn's dressing room, and a call comes in from a girl looking for Flynn. Jack takes the call and says that Flynn, "is in bed with a cold.......a COLD."

Later Jack takes the gang to the set of "George Washington Slept Here", and is talking to Ann Sheridan. He says (approximately), "Ann, you're certainly looking fabulous today!" Sheridan responds, "Jack, you're certainly LOOKING today!" It is left undefined as to exactly what part of Ann Sheridan Jack was looking AT.

I was listening to the exact same episode this week! What are the odds of that? Probably not too high because I listen to 10-20 episodes a week. Anyway... I noticed the same joke, but to me it seemed like the "You're Looking..." crack was more about her not wanting to tell Jack he was looking good or anything else positive about the way he looked. Hmm...that joke could be taken either way. As Mae West would say...I'm looking good, and you're getting a good look, big boy!
