Rochester ad-libs!

Postby shimp scrampi » Fri Jan 21, 2005 5:20 am

While most of the cast ad-libs or breaks character once in awhile, I've never heard Eddie Anderson do it. Listening to 3/4/51, Roch fluffs a line where he is making a crack about "Manischewitz's Wine" taking out ad space in Jack's scrapbook. "Manischewitz" comes out completely wrong, and gets a big laugh. Jack mentions he had a feeling this would happen - and VERY quietly, Roch mumbles "I'm a bourbon man!". Really funny little moment. :D

That is particularly interesting because this show was BEFORE Bob Crosby was a cast member, and remember Crosby's fluff on the pronunciation of Manischewitz became an in-joke for years!

Ah....this explains one of the Christmas episodes in which Bob sang the following lyric in the commercial: "There is nothin', no there's nothin', nothin' that I like as well as Manischew-w-witz and good ol' Lucky Strike."
