On Monday and Thursday of this coming week (November 5th and 8th) at 10:30 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, two of Jack Benny's guest appearances on "The Fred Allen Show" will be rebroadcast by Toronto's CFZM.
Monday, it's perhaps the best and funniest Fred Allen episode of all: "King For A Day", on which Jack plays the "King" of honor in a hilarious spoof of the radio (and later TV) series "Queen For A Day".
And on Thursday, Jack guest-stars in a spoof of "Stop The Music", the quiz show that knocked Allen out of his longtime time slot.
CFZM is at 740 on the AM dial, and it's 50,000-watt nighttime signal is heard across most of the eastern portions of the United States and Canada. Beyond that area, you can go to their website at http://www.am740.ca or http://www.zoomerradio.ca and at 10:30 P.m. EST on the appropriate night, click-on the "Listen Live" link and enjoy the show!
Millions believed Jack Benny and Fred Allen couldn't stand each other, but it's my understanding that in reality, they were each other's best friend and when Allen died in 1956, Jack was very devastated.
