Can someone please tell me the date of the episode about the gas man? I've heard of it and it's occasionally alluded to in other shows, but I've never heard it. Thanks

Rochester's phone call reporting what sounded like "feeding time at the zoo" was on the 4/6/41 show.

Recently I decided to go back and listen, in order. (I, coincidentally started this time with Dennis' first show, 1939)

I was going to come on here to see when Rochester's "Gas Man" running gag had started, but just came upon it this week.

I still think that was one of the best running gags they had. I wish they would have stretched it out longer.

Rochester references the gasman once again in the early 50's... I think it was maybe during Phil's last year? The audience STILL got it!
That's funny, Norman Krasna loved that joke.

There was one mention in April 1942 (I had wrote it down when I heard it, but lost it) and one in May 1942. The April one had Rodchester mentioning that Carmichael woke up early from hibernating (much to the demise of another gas man) In my opinion the audience did not have a positive reaction (the delivery may have been off as well)
