Andy Devine & Jack

On the Christmas 1944 show the Mayor of Van Nuys makes an appearance. Either he or Jack, in making a toast (I think it was Andy, Jack's toast was a heartfelt wish that our boys would be back soon) says that he hopes they'll remain friends for a long time to come.
Was this the case? I haven't seen enough of the 50s TV programs and none of the 60s ones to know if Andy made anypost-radio guest shots.
I also don't have any documentation of their friendship outside of Andy's once frequent and later rare treat visits. I've read most of the available biographies and don't recall Andy getting much more mention than the occasional caption in the photo sections.

Andy subbed for the heart-attack-laden Rochester in the Shower of Stars episode of Jack's 40th Birthday, so you can rest assured that feelings were warm well into the late 50s.
