Faye Emerson was a popular TV personality in the 1950's (especially the early 50's).
While she was also a stage actress, her greatest fame came on TV. She hosted a daytime talk show (sort of like "Regis and Kelly" or "The View") and she was also one of the original panelists on "I've Got A Secret".
What really brought her TV fame was her choice of clothes....She was famous for wearing dresses with VERY low, revealing necklines, and her exposed cleavage soon became the talk of TV.
While it made some TV execs and censors very nervous, it was also bringing in very high. (Why were so many men watching a "Woman's" talk show?).
Her revealed cleavage was also the source for many comedians' jokes in the early 1950's, hence the reference on Jack's show. (You should hear what BOB HOPE used to say about her!).
