That routine of Jack encountering a "Free Sample" display in a supermarket (where he silently and methodically loads EVERYTHING on the display...the dishes, tablecloth, etc...into his shopping cart) is PRICELESS!
That and similar routines (Jack waiting for Gregory Peck to get off the phone so he can ask Peck to guest on an upcoming TV special, etc.) show Jack's skill at pantomime comedy, and give us a side to Jack's comedy that radio just couldn't supply.
So as much as I love Jack on radio, whenever someone says, "Aw, Jack Benny wasn't any good on TV", I say "Ridiculous!". True, Jack's overall PROGRAM may have been better on radio (because it relied more on a talented group of regulars instead of "hip" musical guest stars...which ironically make those "guest star" TV episodes look VERY dated today), but Jack the Comedian was every bit as good...if not BETTER...on TV as he was on radio.
