: Last night I saw the opera "Rigoletto" and thoroughly
: enjoyed it. At one point, they began singing a tune
: that was so familiar to me, but I couldn't quite place
: where I heard it before. Suddenly, I realized what it
: was and I leaned over to my husband and whispered, "It's
: a Lucky Strike commercial!!". In the episode dated 4/25/48,
: entitled "Charlie's Aunt", soprano Dorothy Kirsten appeared on
: the JB show and sang a song from "Rigoletto" with the
: Sportmen Quartet. Of course all the words were changed
: to advertise Lucky Strikes....it's about the best commercial
: I've ever heard on all the JB shows. Even when we go
: to the opera, we can't escape Jack! ha ha ha

My all-time FAVORITE singing Lucky commercial is the one on the Thanksgiving program of 1947 (where Jack goes to buy a turkey).
Jack accompanies the Sportsmen Quartette on his violin to an absolutely ROUSING rendition of "The Poet and Peasant Overture" (with Lucky lyrics, of course!). They really knew how to plug the sponsor's product back then!
