Something has always impressed me when watching old TV footage of Jack Benny doing a comedy monologue...The way that that man OWNED the stage!
Many comedians (Jackie Gleason, Milton Berle, etc.) used to burst out on stage like gangbusters, but Jack would stroll out leisurely...but when he stood there and talked, he had the audience's undivided attention!
I also love the way Jack never rattled off jokes or one-liners, but actually TALKED to his audience as if they were all sitting in the living room having coffee with him....at times he would even interrupt himself:
"But there's always been a...Oh, and ladies and gentlemen, I MUST tell you about this..."
Much has been said and written about Jack's expert comedy timing and delivery, but to actually see and hear him in action delivering an "in-one" monologue is truly an experience!
