While it's a great film (probably Jack's best), "To Be Or Not To Be" had a very tough time of it when it was first released. Carole Lombard died in that tragic plane crash shortly before the film was released, and her death upset Jack greatly. Because of this, the film had sort of a dark cloud over it, and it really wouldn't have been appropriate to make fun of the film in the same way that Jack's other films were always kidded. If you listen to earlier Benny radio broadcasts, whatever the current or upcoming Benny release was at that time ("College Holiday", "Artists and Models", "Man About Town", "Buck Benny Rides Again", "Love Thy Neighbor", "George Washington Slept Here", etc.) was the subject for constant ribbing as being a bad picture, but real-life circumstances prohibited this from being done with "To Be Or Not To Be".
