I agree. Mary's recorded voice lacked spontaneity, particularly when she would "spar" with Jack. Recordings prevent any sort of cue the other person is giving to respond. Of course. I have some friends who are blind, and I send cassette letters to them, and there is no way we can know exactly what the mood of the other is feeling when we hear each other's voice. We make due the best we can without feedback, like Mary did, but there is nothing better than a live performance. Yet we still laugh at Jack because his recordings (audio and video) are all we have, along with the memories provided to us from those who were a part of that special era. Better than nothing.....
